A shoplifting charge can be more serious than you think

Theft is a crime that is not taken lightly in the state of Colorado. There are varying degrees of theft, leaving some people to believe that certain types of stealing really aren't a big deal. Shoplifting is a great example of this. If you are accused of shoplifting, you may find the charges against you to be more serious than you thought possible.

It's just a speeding ticket, what's the big deal?

It seems that just about everyone drives over the speed limit. Speeding is dangerous, though, and is the cause of numerous car accidents in Colorado and elsewhere every year. Due to the safety issue it poses, if one is caught speeding the penalties can be fairly severe.

Driving without a license can be a big deal

Walking out the door without one's wallet is something that most people have done -- it happens. If one is pulled over for a traffic violation and cannot produce his or her valid driver's license, a ticket will likely be issued. It is a whole different ball game if one is purposely driving without a license, is driving with an invalid license or is operating a vehicle on a suspended license. Colorado residents in this position may face penalties that are far more severe than a ticket.

Man caught in the act by video, arrested for petty misdemeanor

Some purported crimes are inexplicably tied to the bizarre fantasies of the perpetrator. One man shocked residents of a townhouse community near Colorado Springs on May 3. At about 2 a.m., surveillance video allegedly caught him defecating on the front porch of a home occupied by a family that did not know the perpetrator. The video was apparently posted on social media and the events reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the 33-year-old man for disorderly conduct, a class one petty misdemeanor.

Student arrested for misdemeanor charge for clown-related threat

Clowns are no longer considered to be harmless entertainment for children, and menacing clown sightings have been popping up across the United States. However, one of Colorado's first clown-related arrest was not for a clown sighting, but for the alleged threat of one. Police charged the student with interfering with faculty, staff or students at an educational institution, a misdemeanor charge.

Don't be overwhelmed by a misdemeanor charge, we make it easy

Movies, TV shows and even the Colorado news all seem to agree on the portrayal of defendants -- they are guilty no matter the circumstances. This depiction is quite damaging and can even result in an individual who is facing a simple misdemeanor charge to give up hope. We understand just how daunting the criminal court can be, which is why we have dedicated our years of experience and knowledge to guiding defendants to the best end possible.

Proposed bill aims to make teen sexting a misdemeanor charge

As technology and society change over time, laws adapting to those changing times are often a necessity. After a teen sexting scandal created a number of legal issues for Colorado high school students, lawmakers are considering a bill that could prevent the same problem in the future. The proposed bill would make the act of teen sexting a misdemeanor charge.

We're here to guide you through your misdemeanor charge

Defendants often feel the impulse to talk to police as soon as they learn that they have been charged with a crime. This urge is understandable, especially since most people simply want their side of events to be heard. Despite efforts to appear as if they are on your side, Colorado police are usually not interested in helping out those who have been accused of committing a crime. Whether facing a misdemeanor charge for driving without a license, for petty theft or anything and everything in between, it is important to first seek just and reliable representation.
