Imagine you go out one night with some friends to celebrate a birthday or a new promotion at work. You have a few drinks, and you decide to get behind the wheel of a car.

Or what if you are out at a concert, and you and another person at the concert get into a fight.

Or how about this one: as a teenager, you skip class and go off campus to cause some mayhem.

All of these situations are examples of people getting into trouble. But what’s important to remember about each one of these hypothetical scenarios is that the people allegedly committing a crime are likely good, honest people who are simply making a mistake. We all make mistakes. We’re human. It’s what we do.

The problem is that, in these cases, the mistake can lead to a lifetime of pain and suffering. The drunk driver will lose his or her license, struggle to find or retain work, and may even be unable to find a suitable place to live.  The person who gets into a fight may face serious assault charges, and could be on the hook in a civil case. The teenager who causes mischief could have that charge ruin his or her future.

This is why it is imperative for anyone who is accused of a crime to contact a criminal defense attorney as soon as possible after the charge has been filed. You need someone to stand up for your rights and protect your future.
