Some purported crimes are inexplicably tied to the bizarre fantasies of the perpetrator. One man shocked residents of a townhouse community near Colorado Springs on May 3. At about 2 a.m., surveillance video allegedly caught him defecating on the front porch of a home occupied by a family that did not know the perpetrator. The video was apparently posted on social media and the events reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the 33-year-old man for disorderly conduct, a class one petty misdemeanor.

Although the family residing in the home contacted the media and the police, they were not taking it personally. One of the residents expressed that they wanted the man caught but that they hoped that he could get help. When apprehended, he reportedly told police that his ex-girlfriend once lived at the property, and he asserted that she died there.

He allegedly told police that he wanted to get revenge on the girl’s spirit. He is shown in the video staring into a window, then proceeding to do the act, which of course is illegal to do in public. After examining the damage, the man allegedly raised his finger, without apparently knowing that he had been recorded by a high quality surveillance video.

The police released him on a summons to appear to answer to the class one petty misdemeanor under the Colorado Criminal Code. Police reports do not indicate if he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If the reports are accurate, it appears that the accused may hold some bizarre beliefs about how to communicate with, or retaliate against, those who have passed away. The best resolution to his predicament would likely be a treatment program, because the accusations do not indicate intentional criminality as much as the possibility of potentially serious mental illness.
