There are numerous shopping malls across Colorado, and these are a popular place for visitors to both pick up goods and relax with the family. At first, this may seem like a relatively safe activity where little could go wrong. Unfortunately, accidents can happen.

Slip-and-fall accidents are one of the most common causes of injuries in these locations. How do these happen?

The volume of customers

In busy shopping malls, large numbers of customers can be a hazard in themselves. One person could knock into another by accident, causing an individual to fall over. This becomes even more dangerous if it happens on a stairway or escalator.

Additionally, when it’s raining or snowing outside, customers are going to bring water from outside onto the shopping mall floors. This makes the entrance to the building especially dangerous.

Poorly maintained floors

It’s also important that shopping malls and the units inside them have the appropriate flooring. While aesthetics are important to businesses, customers also need to be safe at all times. The practicality of certain types of flooring should always be considered. Furthermore, if a floor has become damaged, it should be fixed or replaced as soon as possible.

Inadequate lighting

Dim lights can create an ambience inside of a building. Unfortunately, dim lights also mean that people cannot see properly, and they could suffer a fall as a result. In public spaces, the safety of visitors should always be placed above the aesthetic look of a building.

If you have been injured in a fall that happened as the result of negligence, then you may be able to hold the establishment to account. Seek legal guidance to find out more about your options.
