Colorado woman faces DUI charges after crash involving sheep

Drivers face a variety of different distractions and obstacles when traveling Colorado roadways. The potential for hazardous conditions due to weather, for example, is well known. However, the majority of drivers are likely unprepared for the presence of a flock of sheep in the roadways. Unfortunately, one woman now faces DUI charges after she allegedly struck a number of sheep that were in the road.

According to reports, the incident happened one day in mid-November. The 47-year-old driver was reportedly driving on rural roads in Colorado at the time. Police claim that she struck a flock of sheep. Reportedly, 38 sheep were killed, and an additional 12 were injured.

In addition to claiming that she struck the sheep, police also say that she left the scene of the accident. However, they were reportedly able to locate her because debris from her vehicle was left at the scene of the accident. She now faces multiple criminal charges. In addition to driving under the influence, she was also cited for failing to provide proof of insurance and leaving the scene of an accident.

As in all criminal cases, Colorado prosecutors must prove that the woman is guilty of the charges she faces beyond a reasonable doubt. To do so, they must typically provide answers to several questions, including how it was determined that she was intoxicated and what her blood alcohol content was at the time of the accident. Many people facing DUI charges who are unfamiliar with the criminal court system seek help from an experienced attorney who can guide them through the system and help ensure lawful treatment.
