A police investigation is often like putting together a puzzle. However, officers do not always have all the pieces of the puzzle, leaving them to speculate regarding missing details. As a result, innocent people could ultimately be accused of crimes they did not commit. One man may have to fight against a murder charge in two different Colorado cities, including Denver.
The first incident reportedly occurred in November. Police claim that a man and woman became involved in some sort of dispute with a man. The man allegedly shot the two people. The injured man drove himself and the woman to the hospital, where the female victim was pronounced dead. The male victim is expected to recover.
The second incident is said to have occurred three days later in Denver. Police arrived at the scene after receiving reports of gunshots. They say they discovered a 20-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. He later died at the hospital. Police are now looking for a 20-year-old man they claim is responsible for the deaths.
Despite accusations made by Colorado police, it is unclear how they connected the suspect to the separate crimes. Prosecutors must prove guilt of the murder charges beyond a reasonable doubt in order gain a conviction. Many people facing a murder charge have benefited from the advice of an experienced criminal defense attorney, starting in the early stages of the case. Such a professional can help ensure lawful treatment and take appropriate action if a defendant’s rights are violated during the criminal process.
