Where to File a Family Law Petition?

You should file the petition at the district court in the county where the interested party lives. For instance, in a custody case, you file in the county where your child resides, while with a divorce, you’d file in the county where you or your soon-to-be-ex-spouse live. If you are filing in Douglas County, it is in the 18th Judicial District of Colorado, and the Douglas County Courthouse is located off of exit 184 on I-25.
